The English county competitions were continued during the week with the following results; — Essex v. Middlesex. —Essex, first innings 252; second 186. Middlesex, first 237 (Nichols took six wickets, for 78) ; second, 203 for eight wickets. Middlesex won by two wickets. Leicester v. Glamorganshire;—Leicester, first, 454 for six wickets, declared (Shipman 145, Berry 91); seoond, 132 for three wickets. Glamorgan, first 443 (Dyson 88, Duckfleld 100). Leicester won on the first innings. Warwick v. Surrey —Warwick, first 382 (Santall 142). Surrey, first 231 (Mayer took five for 57), followed on 128 (Brown took eight for 35). Warwick won by an innings and 23 runs. Derby v. Leicestershire. —Derby, first 128 (Sibbles took five for 49); second 181 (Sibbles took four for 58). Lancashire, first, 182 (Mitchell took six for 69) ; second, 131 for seven wickets. Lancashire won by three wickets. Sussex v. Yorkshire. —Sussex, first 378 (James Langridge, in, 159, John Langridge 75, Leyland took five for 67) ; second, 17 for no wickets. Yorkshire, first 131 (James Langridge took four for 34), followed on, 263 (Barber 85). Sussex won by ten wickets. Nottingham v. Gloucester.—Nottingham, first 301 for nine wickets declared (Walker 93); second 196 for nine wickets declared. Gloucester, first 347 (Barnett 128) ; second, 55 for no wickets. Gloucester won on the first innings. ■ Worcester v. Hampshire.—Worcester, first 327 (Gibbons 87) ; second 243 for five wickets declared (Nichol in, 106). Hampshire, first 252 (Perks took seven for 66); second 192 for four wickets. Worcester won on the first innings. Somerset v. Kent. —Somerset, first 215 (Freeman took seven for 6); second 277 for eight wickets declared. Kent, first 105 (Welland took seven for 59) ; second 303 (Woolley 19S). Somerset won by 24 runs. Freeman lias reached 100 wickets for the fourteenth consecutive season.
