Gillies (Otago) Is not available for the University of New 'Zealand team against the Australian Universities at Auckland on Saturday. Uttley (Otago) fills the vacancy. MATAMATA UNION. MATAMATA TOO STRONG. MATCH WITH WARDVILLE. The meeting between Wardvllle and . Matamata provided the keenest game ■ this season. Wardvllle were handicapped by the absence of the Carroll Bros., but were reinforced by Iv. and J. Wilson. The Maori three-quarter Appears big and burly but the little attacking he got to do was done well and his tackling is as good as ever. The Matamata pack was altogether too solid for Its opponents and in the set scrums and line-outs had it all its own way. Useful Forwards. Albert Story is probably the best forward in the Union at present, but could pay more attention to certain aspects of his play. Howard and Malligan are two forwards who do 1 their bit. The Matamata backs were all at sea and the last try of tho day ' was the only decent combined movement they staged.

Among tho Baoks.

W. H. Carlson's handling was faulty And the sooner the bis fellow goes into the pack the belter. Graham, the new Maori wing, was vainly looking for work all day. He is a likely-look-ing sort, lngley was a good forward in the Wardvllle pack but must learn the offside rule. Thompson and McCullough were always triers. K. Wilson. Dixon. Lynch and Solomon were better inside men than the opposition. K. Wilson played a fine game behind the scrum against odds. V. Sharpe at full put up a tine game and his defence was very solid.
