ON THE WATERFRONT.
TROUBLE AT WELLINGTON. \ NO RESPONSE TO CALL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association ) WELLINGTON, Monday. When the Maunganul arrived early this morning there was a big crowd of seamen on the wharf lo greet her, hut there was also a strong force of police and the seamen gradually drifted away. When the Union Company called for waterside labour to work the Maunganul’s cargo there was no response. It is understood the men refused to work her not only while her volunteer crew was on board, but until the union crew had been signed on to-morrow morning.
Mails and passengers’ luggage were landed, but no cargo was handled today. The volunteer crew left the vessel during the day and the crew’s quarters were fumigated. The Maunganul is now timed to leave al (1 p.m. to-morrow for San Francisco.
