The Strap At School. —“lt always amuses me to hear the references made by the old pupils to the strap," said the headmaster of the St. Albans School (Mr J. E. Thwaitcs)., speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations the other evening (says the Christchurch Times). “It is a thing very seldom seen to-day,” he added. “In thoso times classes numbered in the vicinity or 100. Some did got what they deserved. Some got more than iney deserved." “near, hear.’ came from several parts of the room. “I think,” said Mr Thwail.es. “that more tears were shed over spelling than anything else. Now, with smaller classes, the strap is disappearing, and I hope it will soon go out of existence altogether.”
