FOR THE UPLIFTING OF MANKIND.

(To the Editor). Sir.—The present currency system Is wrong fundamentally—in so far as it has failed signally to formulate a correct solution of the unemployment issue, which is our worst trouble the world over. Major Douglas’s scheme may prove no better; for in the first place It seems too long -on the road to bring relief proper to. the masses; and It -may also prove to be too full of complications. Whatever new scheme is to hold sway In the future, -must undoubtedly take Nature fully into the plan. We will, as -a people, have to assess and balance the world’s capital wealth into four composite—but not equal parts. The bread-win-ner with a family, of say, five or six children, should be placed |n a position whereby .through hard work and thrift he may earn up to £233 or £250 per annum. It Is a simple and a modest plan that the world to-day is crying aloud for the rescue and uplift of mankind. I will first take the “British Empire.” Man must -admit, first—that nature is helping him to the extent of fifty per cent. All along the line then we take twenty-five per cent for labour (perhaps a portion of -this would be under-paid labour), but We must not dwell on this. This •constitutes the total wealth of the British Empire 75 per cent; we must also, now admit, that the balance 25 per cent Is going waste all the time. When we are advanced far enough in science to eliminate this waste, which we may be able to do in gradual stages; then and probably only -then, will man be no longer required to work. Now, out of this 25 per cent manual labour can Justly claim 20 per cent for his services—the 5 per centum only can be placed to the credit of oapital for his services. Now the -moneyed man represented only Some 15 per ceftt of our population—thus leaving eighty-five per centum rank and file. Capital, therefore, •should be asked to immediately.‘climb down” the ladder and arrange for an honourable and amicable settlement of the ‘‘unemployment issue”—so that the rank and file may participate much •more fully than they do at present,- In the abUhdartce of the world’s goods. We all know the trials and the hard position that the world Is going ■through; we all know, too, how degrading the unemployment -schemes have proved to be to man, Coordinate your banks, co-ordinate your world exchanges to an even keel, and ultimately co-ordinate and unite the whole universe for the Uplifting of mankind. 1 trust that the ,85 per /cent of population will wake up and take concerted action to give this scheme tile backing that It should have to bring it triumphantly to victory. May it hear good fruit and may It hasten the world back to stability.— I am, etc., FOUNDATION. Hamilton, April 23, .1933,
