IRISH FREE STATE.
CONSTITUTIONAL POSITION
WHEN OATH IS ELIMINATED. A BRITISH STATEMENT. I United Press Assti.—Elec. Tel. Copyright, (Received April 26, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 25. The Sun learns that a statement is being prepared outlining Britain’s interpretation of the Free State’s position from Alay 5, when the Oath of Allegiance will disappear. It Is a highly-complicated constitutional position in which the Free State will retain membership of the Empire and enjoy all privileges apart from Ottawa. Irishmen will remain British subjects. Under the Anglo-Irish treaty, the Balfour Declaration, and tho Statute of Westminster secession is only possible by the declaration of a Republic which Is dependent on Ulster’s willingness to unite and the Free Sta'/t becoming self-supporting, of which there is little prospect.
