TE AROHA BOROUGH.
THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The financial statement presented by the borough treasurer at Te Aroha for the year ended March 31, shows ■the finances to be in a very satisfactory position, notwithstanding the fact that the period has l generally been termed “a difficult one.”
Under the revenue heading, cash in bank, at beginning of the year was £1787, to which Is added general rate £3415, rates subsidy £2lO, special rates £2584, Goldfields revenue £505, license fees £Bl2, miscellaneaus revenue £297, unemployment tax £2667, other taxes £4lO, municipal quarry £IOO7, water supply £1552, electric lighting £7491, abattoir account £ll7l, grand total £23,914 17s 2d. On the expenditure side are: Public Works £4 666, unemployment relief £2BBO, hospital board levy £479, interest on loans and sinking funds £2547, salaries and expenses £1430, quarry £9BB, water supply, wages and interest £4Ol, electrio lighting £6555, abattoir £ll4O, leaving a credit balance at end of year of £2763, a gain of £976 during the year, in addition to sinking funds for loans. As no costly work is anticipated for the present year, and the loans conversion vftll mean a decided reduction in interest, it is expected the borough rates will be on a lower scale .than for years.
