CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
MONTHLY SOCIAL HELD. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. A most enjoyable time was spent by a large gathering of members and visitors at the South Auckland Caledonian Society’s monthly social and old-time dance in the Y.M.C.A. on Saturday night, and from every aspect the function was a great success. An excellent concert programme occupied the earlier part of the proceedings and after supper old-time dancing was continued until a late hour. A feature of the programme was a sailors' hornpipe competition, which attracted good entries. The open section was won by Miss D. Sorenson, while Master B. Forsythe was placed Ilrst in the novice division. The judge was Mr F. 11. Sutherland. An Irish jig competition will he the next event to be held by the society. The concert programme was as follows: —Selection by society’s pipe hand; songs. Mrs lan Stuart, Mrs Foster, Mr 11. Horton Worm and Milan Anderson: vocal duel. Misses Forster: recitations, Mr Geo. Moore. The .accompaniments were played ny Miss Hose Findlay, Pipe-Major S. Clothier, and Piper S. Paget. Excellent dance music was provided by Mrs Flygor's orchestra, while Mr L. Cameron was an elllcient M.c. Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr and Mrs Sutherland, and Miss Clothier and partner.
