HARDLEY SHIELD GAME

SOUTH AUCKLAND SUCCESSFUL

AUCKLAND TEAM DEFEATED. The interest of bowlers throughout a widely scattered district was centred in the meeting of the Auckland and South Auckland representatives in a match for the Hardley Shield on the Hamilton green on Saturday. Playing conditions were ideal, and both morning and afternoon games were witnessed by a large gallery of spectator*. Sixteen games were played, eight in the morning and a similar number in the afternoon. South Auckland, the holders of the trophy, won the match by 407 points to 325, winning nine games to their opponents’ seven. At the conclusion of the morning round South Auckland were leading by 181 points to 175. The aggregate points for the afternoon games were 226 and 150 respectively. The South Auckland Bowling_ Centre’s champion of champions singles competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday afternoon, when the games in the second group of Section B, which were postponed from tiie previous Saturday, were decided on the Whitiora green. Four players were set down to meet, but the Raglan representative failed to appear, and Whineray (Frankton) won his game by default. In the other game G. Frost (Frankton Railway) beat G. Lymburn (Hamilton East) by 20 points to 18. Frost then met Whineray to decide the group winner, and after a keenly contested game Frost took the decision with the score 19 — 15.

INTER-CLUB MATCHES.

WIIITIORA AND CLAUDELANDS. NARROW WIN FOR FORMER. The Whitiora Club fielded ten teams in its match with Claudelands on the latter club’s green on Saturday. Tlie very pleasant afternoon, with the green in good playing order, was enjoyed by all players. The result of the play was close, as the aggregate scores indicate: Whitiora 199, Claudelands 196. CLAUDELANDS AND CAMBRIDGE. ANNUAL MATCH NEXT WEEK. The annual inter-club match between Claudelands and Cambrdge will take place on Saturday nex.t at Cambridge. Tliis fixture is an outstanding feature of the season, and last year the Claudelands Club fielded 18 teams. All members are requested to make the trip and should notify the selectors. Buses will leave the green at 1.15 p.m. sharp.

HUNTLY v. HAMILTON EAST. Three rinks from the Huntly Club visited Hamilton East on Saturday and defeated the home players by two points on the aggregate, winning two out of the three games.
