RUST IN WHEAT.
SERIOUS LOSS FEARED. PALMERSTON NORTH, Saturday. It is estimated that there will be * loss of from 15 to 20 per cent, of the best yields, and total destruction in other cases, as a result of rust In what promised to be a record wheat yield In the Manawatu and Rangltikei district. Discussing the outbreak of rust, Mr J. C. Neill, field mycologist at the Plant Research Station, said that apart from losses in the yield a further effeot was to lower the quality of a sample. In previous years there had not been much severe loss, but now milling wheat was at a substantial premium over fowl wheat. Consequently the rust-infected yield would be much less profitable owing to the sample not being up to milling standard through the grain being shrivelled and discoloured. The present year is a particularly bad one for rust. Do not discard any of your ideas until you are certain that there is na profit in them. You may be discarding a fortune. We can advise you.
