PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. HAMILTON’S BAD LUCK AUCKLAND, Monday. Thirty-seven crews were engaged on Saturday in the provincial championships. In the final of the provincial eightoar championship against St. George’s the Hamilton crew had to stop rowing for fear of the boat swamping, while in the senior 'fours N. Pope, the stroke of Hamilton’s -champion combination, collapsed from muscle trouble in the back when the boat was leading. The oarsman was taken aboard -a Haunch immediately. The Auckland four won both the ■senior and junior provincial championships. Following were the results.—

Light Malden Fours, 1 mile. St. George’s (I. G. Horton), scr. 1 Auckland 2 Waitemata (R. G. Barker), 12s .. 3 Won by one length, with two lengths between 'second and third. Junior Fours, miles. Auckland 1 North Shore -2 Hamilton (R. [Morpeth, ,T. Clough, J. Flynn, W. Tombs) 3 Won toy two lengths, with four lengths between second and third. Handicap Single Sculls, 1 mile. St. George’s scr 1 Hamilton (D. Hare), 6s 2 Waitemata) ,12s 3 Horton won toy a length and aquartor, with two lengths between second and third. Provincial Elght-oar Title. 2 Milos. St. George’s 1 Hamilton retired. St. George’s had much the better of the start, and Hamilton had to challenge strongly to come up at Orakei Wharf. St. George’s went away again, and Hamilton, which seemed rather heavy and less trim than the Aucklanders, retired some distance later with a danger of the eight swamping. The crew was taken on board the launch Matarere, owned toy air G. 11. Restin, and the boat was towed home. Old Boys’ Eights, about half-a-mlle. Auckland Grammar 1 King’s College 2 Won by a length. Youths’ Fours, 1 mile. Hamilton No. 1 (J. Stuart, L. Skeet, B. Peart, L. Pardington) ........1.. 1 St. George’s —2 Waitemata 3 Hamilton won by six 'lengths, with two lengths between second and third. Hamilton No. 1 and Waitemata took the early lead, followed by St. George’s and Hamilton No. 2. Hamilton No. 1 won 'the- race as it liked, while in a great contest for second St. George's beat Waitemata. Open Malden Fours, 1 mile. Hamilton No. 1 (J. Harrell, 0. Coachman, R. Remetis, G. Taylor) 1 West End 2 Hamilton No. 2 (R. Sheri ey, W. Brook, S. F. Pcmbcrthy, T. Caskey) ■ 3 Won by 3ft., with one and a-half lengths between second and 'third. Hamilton No. 1, on the Inside of the course, stole a march on West End half-way across Hobson Bay, and at Hie reef had one and a-half lengths’ advantage. West End sprinted from j there, but just failed lo beat Hamilton home. The selectors of the Auokland rowing eight, Messrs A. C. Norden and W. Logan, announced yesterday the following crew to represent the province in the inter-provinoial eight-oar championship race to toe held at Wellington on April I: —J. R. H. Biss, St. George’s (stroke); L. E. Brooker, Waitemata (7); T. John-son( Waitemata (6); F. Solomon, St. George’s (5); P. Williams, St. George’s (4); F. G. Bowling, West End (3); W. J. Dean, North Shore (2); J. H. Donovan, West End (bow), spare men: R. G. Barker, Waitemata; C. Dunster, West 'End. Mr W. Logan will bo coach.

The position of stroke is not definitely decided and rests between Biss and ‘Dean.
