Pest of Caterpillars. —The maize crops, which were expeoted to produce a record yield this season, are suffering a considerable set-back owing to the prevalence of green caterpillars. The grub is causing great havoc in some of the areas planted, and one block of 26 acre., near the town has been absolutely ■swept by the grub, rendering the crop useless. One planter estimates his loss at over £4OO.
