UNEMPLOYED PARADE.
HALF-HEARTED AFFAIR. OCCURRENCE AT WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Strong police preparations and a prior announcement that no gathering would be permitted, dampened the enthusiasm of a half-hearted demonstration made by the unemployed to-day. The procession was supposed to start from Courtenay Place at 11 o’clock and traverse the main streets to Parliament House, but only a few men, including some carrying bundles of banners for distribution, approached the meeting place. Those were immediately taken control of by the police and six mounted men. Large numbers of ordinary police kept the traffic lanes open at this busy centre and allowed nobody to cong^pgate. By 12.30 p.m. everyone seemed to have departed, probably to the usual Saturday afternoon sports, and the space fronting Parliament Buildingswas empty. SEVERAL ARRESTS MADE.
