AID FOR FARMERS.
FEDERAL PROPOSAL. WILL SENATE DEFEAT IT ? CRITICAL POSITION. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgnt. CANBERRA, Nov. 30. Concern is felt by the Government at the possibility of defeat in the Senate on the proposals for assistance to the wheat industry. The Cabinet, in spite of much hostile opposition, lias decided to adhere firmly to the proposal that £2,000,000 be paid to the States on the basis of last year’s production figures, and that It must be distributed solely for the benefit of necessitous growers. The Government under no circumstances will allow it to be paid out in the form of a bounty.
The Government’s decisions will be challenged by the Country Party. A critical position will thus be created.
