A correctly dressed young man twerled a cane and talked pleasantly with customers in the Continental Bank in New York’s financial district. Then, while the teller was absent for a moment, reached his cane into the cage and with a steel hook at the end of it secured five Liberty bonds worth 100,000 dollars each and payable to bearer. The theft was discovered within three minutes, but the visitor had departed.
