The Minister of Defence, General Schleicher, is continuing his efforts to form a provisional Government with a non-political 'programme, but well informed people doubt his success, and I-lerr von Papen’s reappointment as Chancellor is regarded as certain. ’ The President, Marshal von Hindenburg, is reported to have told Dr. Kaas, leader of the Centre Party; “Herr von Papen ihas my confidence. If he is rejected I do not feel inclined to go on.”
