CHEESE QUALITY. REGAINING REPUTATION. INQUIRY URGED. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Criticism of the quality of New Zealand cheese was revived in the following notice of a question addressed to the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, by Mr A. Harris (Government —Waitemata) today: Whether, in view of the disquieting reports regarding the inferior quality of New Zealand cheese exported to the United Kingdom market, the Government will cause an exhaustive inquiry -to he made into the method of manufacture and, if necessary, call in the assistance of recognised dairy experts from outside the Government service to advise upon the best means of regaining the reputation for high quality fornferly enjoyed toy New Zealand cheese factories. REQUEST FOR PROTECTION. HIRE PURCHASE AGREEMENTS. LEGISLATIVE ACTION URGED. (Times 'Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The introduction of legislation this session for the protection of purchasers under hire purchase agreements was sought toy Air W. Nash (Labour —Hutt), in a question he asked the Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. G. Cotobe, in the House of Representatives this afternoon. Mr Nash also asked the (Minister whether he would provide that no furniture or other chattels subject to a hire purchase agreement should toe seized except on an order -obtained from a magistrate after all parties had toad an opportunity of being heard. “In two cases,” he added, "vendors have, by 'tricky methods, seized furniture upon which 'the larger -proportion of the -purchase price has been paid, and in one of the cases bedroom furniture was seized and the mother, with her young child, left to lie on the floor. In another case nearly £l4O had been paid towards a purchase of furniture to the value of £250 when the furniture was taken toa-ck, with the result that the purchaser had paid £'l4o for 18 months’ use -of the furniture, the total value of which at hire purchase prices was less than £250.” Mr Cobbe said that in view of the fact that he had only received the question 15 minutes before the House met, and that during that time he had been engaged with a deputation it had been impossible for him to prepare a considered reply. He would, however, have inquiries made. EMBLEMS FOR GRAVES. BONAFIDES OF ASSOCIATION. QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. SOLDIERS BURIED OVERSEAS. (Times 'Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. An undertaking to have Inquiries made into the activities of an organisation known as the Overseas ex-Ser-vice 'Men’s Association was given toy the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. A. •Hamilton, when replying to a question asked by Mr W. Nash (Labour —(Hutt) in the House of -Representatives this afternoon. -Mr Nash said that this organisation was distributing circulars throughout the Dominion requesting the payment of 2s 6d for a certificate and also offering to supply wreaths for placing on the graves of New Zealand soldiers at from 3s Gd to 7s Gd. The address of the association was given as Place D’Armes, Albert (Somme), France. "The parents of deceased soldiers," said Mr Nash, “should be notified -that the War Graves 'Commission is taking all,steps necessary to ensure that the graves are kept in proper order, and no remittance should be sent to any organisation overseas until full inquiries have been made by the Minister.” Mr Hamilton said that he would have inquiries made and when the result of those were available he would communicate the result to -Mr Nash In writing. Mr Nash: Will you make a public statement advising parents not to send money to this organisation in the meantime ? Mr Hamilton: I will look into it.
