MATAMATA NOTES.
St. Andrew’s Church. The annual meeting of members and adherents of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Matamala, was held on Tuesday evening, Rev. A. C. Hampton presiding over a good attendance. The reports and balance sheets of the various organisations in connection with the church disclose a satisfactory state of affairs. The roll number is now 258 and still Increasing, while there are 110 children attending the Sunday School and 70 Bible Class members. Regret was expressed at the loss, by death, of Miss E. Murray','' who had been organist of the church for some years. The balance of assets over liabilities was shown as £3186 4s 2d. Rev. Mr Hampton had' offered to accept a reduction in salary, but It was not necessary to do this. Officers elected were:—Management committee, Messrs Crawford, Barry, Gelston, Madili, Diprosc, Schofield, Sutherland, Findiater, Kibblewhite, Grover, Mesdames Griffiths and Findlater; secretary, Mr J. Diprosc; auditor, Mr F. Banks; hall manager, Mr A. J- Tong. Swimming. The Matamata Swimming Club is prepared to coach the children of the district in the arts of swimming and life-saving. Members met representatives of the schools and committees on Monday evening and it was finally arranged that the children of Standard IV should receive tuition from members of the club. A Saturday afternoon class is also being conducted by Mr F. Hall for - beginners. Horticultural Society. Arrangements are well in hand for the second annual (lower show, and though the dry weather is proving fatal to the roses the executive expeels to stage a line display.
