GOLD FOR BRITAIN.
SHIPMENT FROM SOUTH AFRICA. HOARDS IN INDIA. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Nov. 28. South Africa’s largest consignment of gold—£2,ooo,ooo 'worth—arrived at Southampton this week. It has been transferred to the Bank of England. CACUTTA, Nov. 28. There appears to be no end to the amount of gold hoarded in India. Though Britain has been off gold for more than a year the bullion room of every liner leaving Bombay Is crammed with gold. The exports for the year now amount to 1,000,000,000 rupees (about £60,000,000 at par.) Distrust of banks by primitive peoples is the -main reason why family fortunes have been buried beneath humble houses.
