NO RHODES SCHOLARS.
CANDIDATES REJECTED. COMMITTEE’S LONG SITTING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. For the first time in the history of New Zealand no Rhodes scholars have been selected this year. The Selection Committee met at Government House to-day. After live candidates had appeared before it, and after protracted deliberations upon their merits, it was resolved to make no award. It is understood the meeting was the longest Selection Committee meeting ever held. Victoria University College did not nominate any candidates, and Otago University made only one nomination, but the Auckland and Canterbury Colleges submitted two students. Those present at the meeting, at which the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, presided, were the Chief justice, Sir Michael Myers, Professor ,1. Macmillan Brown, Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, Professor H. w. Segar, chairman of the Academic' Board, Sir Andrew Russel!, Professor P. W. Robertson and Dir C. M. Gllrav, the last two being former Rhodes scholars.
