WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

IVSORRINSVILLE. A very iplcasant afternoon was spent by the members of the day circle of the Morrinsvillc Women’s Institute. Mrs Topbam presided over an attendance of Go, a very satisfactory number considering that it had been necessary to alter the date from the usuai Friday because of other fixtures. A comprehensive report of the AVaikato conference held in Hamilton early in the month was given by Mrs Gardner Brown, who was the branch’s delegate. Airs Simpson, on behalf of those present, thanked Airs Brown for Ihc clearness of her report and for Lire excellent, manner in which she had .carried ,out her duties at the conference. The president, iMTs Topham, announced that she would not he seeking rc-elcclion to that office for the coming year. .Mesdames Dales and Leggett expressed regret at Airs Topham’s resignation, and complimented her on the success of the branch. A popular demonstration of French doll dressing was given toy Airs A. Grigg, who had already given a similar (lemonstralion to llie night circle. Songs given by Airs J. J. Seales and elocutionary items by Airs C. S. Wood were preally appreciated. Hostesses for the afternoon were Alesdames Al. Finn, G. Ilorniblow, Aiken, 11. Barlow and Miss Turnbull. In tiic absence of the secretary, Airs Wilcox, the secretarial duties were carried oul by Airs Brown. AT MATANGI. (Members of the Afaiangi Women’s Insliluic spent a very interesting day on .Monday, when Mrs Harrison gave a special demonstration day in the Alalangi Hall. Amongst the various instructive demonstrations given were glovemaking, various thrift articles, including wool and felt rugs, sugarbag and hinder twine mats, elc., arts and crafts, skin-curing and dyeing, and .soft toy-making. The methods shown were simple, and inexpensive, even for some of the most 'beautiful articles.

AT TE UKU. The Te Ukti Women's institute held llieir annual meeting on llie I Till, nearly all the members being present. The business was Hie election of ollicers for llie furthcoming year. The president., Mrs Fenllierstnnhaugh, gave a rcporl, of llie year's work and of tin 1 conferciico to which she was a dclegale. factory 'position. The president read a very interesting letter from the Balcombe 'lnstitute (Sussex, England), thanking us for oui’ gift of butter, which was considered delicious. The trophy for, the year’s roil of honour competition was won by Mrs J. 11. Dent. The new. ollleers are: President, 'Mrs Silcock; vice-president, Mrs Fcatherstonhaugh; secretary, Mrs J. H. Dent; treasurer, .Miss Muriel Sutton; suggestion box, Mrs Reece; notice board, Mrs Bromish; press correspondent, Mrs Dodd; charge ot lone members, '.Miss Myrlle Sutton; receipt book, 'Mrs ’Checkley; music, Mrs Silcock. Very good business was done at tlie sales table. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mcsdames Dodd and Featherstonhaugh and Misses Muriel and Myrtle Sutton. A special all-day demonstration was given by Mrs Harrison on Thursday, 24th, many members being present, who were greatly interested in her work which was exhibited, and some very useful and beautiful things were made from waste material. Mr,s Harrison gave an interesting and instructive talk on her work. The very smallest detail was explained, after which a demonstration was given in the making of soft toys, rugs, papiermache, gioves, basket-making, curing skins, etc. A very pleasant day was spent by all. A delicious lunch and dainty afternoon tea was served by the members. At Hie conclusion of tiic meeting a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Harrison.
