FIRE IN A MINE.
POSITION MUCH IMPROVED. WIIANGAREI, Monday. 7’he position with regard to the tire in the Ililairangi Coal Company’s mine at Hikurangl is considerably improved io-dav, Mr ,1. Makinson, manager oi the mine, stated ttiis evening. There have been no further falls of coal and stone in the return airway, hut the smouldering coal has rendered it. impossible to carry out an inspection of the damaged area. Water is still being sprayed on the debris. The loss of wages to the 100-odd miners who arc idle as a result of the tire is about £3OO a week.
