SAVAGE ASSAULT.
. FATHER AND SON BEATEN. BOY'S LIFE IN DANQER. (From a Correspondent). SYDNEY, November 17. A shocking outrage was perpetrated In an apartment house in Phelps Street, Surrey Hills, early this morning. It appears Herbert Kissick, io, and his son Eric, J 7, were sound asleep when awakened by a loud knocking at the door. The next moment a man burs>t Into the room. The father and son were In the act of springing from ■> their ibeds when the son received a terrific blow on the head with what appeared to be a bottle. The father . picked up a heavy piece of wood and turned upon the attacker, but his efforts were futile, as the intruder nnatehed the weapon from Ivisslclc’s hands and belaboured him unmercifully about the" head and body. The son was also battered. Both men became semi-conscious. The proprietress, on hearing the disturbance, telephoned the police, who after Interviewing the victims, arrested another boarder in a bed on the same premises. They also discovered u wooden bludgeon covered with blood. Bolh'Tnen were admitted to hospital in a critical condition with the blood streaming from cuts to their heads and faces-. In addition, the father had a terrible gash on the left hand. It Is staled that yesterday afternoon a man insulted Kissiok’s 15-year-old jv daughter, following upon which the f # father called him into the street and "knocked him down. The son -started his Leaving Certificate Examination yesterday. He Is in such a serious condition that doctors fear for his life. Late this afternoon, Victor Valentine, 31, miner, appeared before the Central Court, charged with., having inflicted grievous bodily harm upon Eric Hartley Kissick and Herbert Hartley Kissick. He was remanded until November 25. and bail was’ refused. Sergeant Caban told the magistrate fears are entertained for the recovery of the young man.
