BAND CONTEST.
WINNERS DISQUALIFIED
USED OUTSIDE MEMBERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Last Saturday the Wellington Artillery Rand secured the highest number of points in the Masterton Band Contest, and in the evening its conductor, Captain T. Herd, was duly presented with the Shield. However, it is now announced that Hie Wellington Artillery Band and the Wellington Royal Naval Reserve Band wore automatically disqualified through utilising the services of players not regularly attached to these hands. , . Lt Mr J. G. Osborne, secretary of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association, stated that although the Shield had been handed over to Captain Herd a meeting of the New Zealand Association will be held next week to discuss the matter. He anticipated that Captain Herd will be asked to hand back the Shield. 3 'l'he only two "clean” bands in the contest were Masterton and Carterton Municipal, who were third, equal with 69 points. The four Wellington bands were supplemented with outside players, in several cases from “A Grade bands.
