THE HOWDEN SHIELD

WIN FOR TE AWAMUTU. The Howden Shield competition was played on the Te Awamutu green on Saturday afternoon, when in the first 'round Te Awamutu had a comfortable | win from Otorohanga, and Te Kuiti heat Leamington after a sensational finish. On the 18th. head Leamington led 15—13, then Te Kuiti scored 3 to which Leamington replied with 4, and led by 3. On the last head Te Kuiti equalised and in the play-off G Harris changed the head from 2 down to 2 up with a beautiful shot which was safely guarded and Zainey could not alter it.
