Within the past 10 years the wastage In hides, due chiefly to oarelees branding, slaughtermen’s knives and barbed wire, has cost, the Australian leather Industry £8,000,000. The master tanners are appealing to cattlemen to brand the beasts on the shoulder with letters not more than three inches in length. They say great damage has been done through unsatisfactory branding and flaying. This damage often amounted to 10s a skin.
