BARNSLEY SENT TO GAOL. THREE MONTHS’ HARD LABOUR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday, In the Supreme Court Herbert Edwin Barnsley, on charges of forging receipts, was sentenced to three months' hard labour. Barnsley had accepted money from the Mayor’s relief fund for distribution to dependents of men imprisoned as a result of the disturbances in May, had forged the signatures of seven women without giving them their money (3s in each caso), and had returned the forged receipts to the City Council, rendering them as genuine receipts.
