AN OPTIMISTIC MAYOR. SHORTAGE OP HOUSES LIKELY. V A SURPLUS OP EXPORTS. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. In opening the conference of the Real Estate Institute to-day the Mayor (Mr Hutchison) expressed the opinion that business conditions showed a slight upward trend. The improvement in the trading position was definite, the surplus of exports in the last eight months having bean £13,000,000. lie said he had reached the conclusion that there would soon be a definite shortage of houses. The land agency business would be amongst the first to reoover from the depression.
