Sydney Stock Exohange. The Sydney Stock Exchange was closed to-dai;, it being a bank holiday. Building Permits In Auckland Building permits issued by the Auckland City Council in July reached a value of £77,351, which brings the amount for the seven months to £1 60,1 23, as against £130,581 for the same period last year. Bankruptcies in Auckland District. —Bankruptcies in the Auckland district last month totalled 12, as compared with 16 in July, 1931, ami 10 In June this year. Customs Duties at Auckland. —The revenue from cusoms duties collected lii Auckland for the first seven months of the year was £1,113,893, compared with £839,105 in the first seven months last year. The duties collected last month totalled £155,220, against £121,595 in July, 1931. During .1 uly, 1932, the collections of motor spirit and lyre duties totalled only £31,§75, compared with £51,680 during flic corresponding period of 1931. The total collections of motor spirit and lyre duties for the first seven months of the year show a decrease of £43,869, compared with Ihe corresponding period of 1931, the figures belny £278,599 and £322,468 respectively.

Rotary Club Address —An address on “Scientists and Science" was given by Dr. H. E. Annett at the Hamilton Luncheon Club to-day. Dead Comrades Remembered. —ln the presence of membors of the English League team, the manager, Mr G. F. Hutchison, placed a wreath on the Cenotaph at Auckland on Saturday. The wreath bore the following inscription: “In memory of our dear comrades, who have crossed the line. —From the English Rugby League tourists, 1932.” Thlof Disturbed. —An Intruder was surprised in the premises of McCabe's j Radios, at the corner of Queen Street and Karangahape Road, Auckland, on Saturday afternoon by the sudden return of the proprietor, Mr Roy McCabe. The man escaped by rushing upstairs through the millinery and drapery shop of the .Misses McCabe. He secured 8s In cash. Arrivals from Overseas. —The num,ber of passengers arriving at Auckland from overseas during July was 503, compared with 457 in June and 376 in the corresponding month of the previous year. Persons leaving Auckland totalled 592, compared with 773 in June and 667 in July, 1931. Boys Secure Jobs. —“ For the time being the juvenile unemployment problem has ceased to be very acute with us. Limited Express Late. —The limited express from Wellington to Auckland, which is due in at Frankton Junction at 7 a.m., was one and a-half hours late this morning. The cause of the delay was a fall of stone on the spiral, blocking the line. The fall occurred before the train reached the spiral. There was- no material damage to the line. The Mayoral Ball. —Tiokets for the Hamilton Mayoral Plain and Fancy Dress Ball, to be held in the Alexander Hall, on Thursday night, August 11, are now available in all the leading shops in Hamilton. Owing to the restricted accommodation in the Rail there will necessarily be a limit to the number of tickets, and intending patrons are advised to buy theif tickets early. Wellington Woollen Company.— , The general manager of the Wellington Woollen .Manufacturing Company, Ltd., has advised the New Zealand Stock Exchange Association that at the annual general meeting on. August 17 the directors will recommend the payment of a final dividend of 3 per cent., making a total of 6 per cont. for the year. The rate for the year, 6 per cent., is the same as that in J 930-31. In .1929-30 the rate was 8 per cent., and. from 1925 to 1929 the regular dividend for both ordinary and preference shares was 10 per cent.
