THE WORLD’S NEED.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—A most -extraordinary effusion /under the nom de plume of “■Old Fashioned” appears in your issue of Friday. His main object appeared to be to support the views recently expressed by other correspondents. This is quite easily understood but what on earth does “Old Fashioned” mean when he states: —■ “ . . the "writer drew conclusions which .constitute a reflection upon the -manners and customs'of the present day. -I absolutely agree with him and have long held the view -that the real source of our present troubles is that we do not stand where we did.” ,1s it possible to get a more ambiguous and paradoxical statement than that?. Exactly what period >of history was it where we stood when, according to "Old Fashioned,” that fatal error was made which caused our present troubles? I have a suspicion that his views, when more fully expounded, would prove Oilghly . illuminating. Would he please elaborate them?—l ■am, etc., SEARCHER. Gordonton, July 30, 1932.
