The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and the Lady Bledisloe, left Auckland for Wellington last night. Mr C. B. Wake, of Hamilton, will leave Wellington to-morrow by the Monowai for a holiday in Sydney. Mr J. M. Bertram, one of the 1932 New Zealand Rhodes Scholars, will leave Auckland by the Niagara tomorrow, en route to England. Messrs. F. Jackson, E. Tappenden, F. O'Sullivan (Auckland), A. Conway (Feilding), J. E. Peach (Napier) and P. A. Nathan (Wellington), are at the Hamilton Hotel. Members of the Anglican choir at Matamata gathered to hid good-bye to one of the members, Mr W. Cottle, who is leaving the district. In presenting Mr Cottle with a prayer-book the Rev. J. W. Burley stressed their appreciation of his regular attendance at church and choir practice, and also his assistance to the Girls’ Club. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, arrived In Hamilton yesterday from Auckland. He will spend to-day in the Raglan district in company with Mr D. Stewart Reid. M.P. The Minister’s visit to this district is the outcome of a request from the Pirongia Settlers’ Association, which asked that Mr Young confer with ii on -matters' of local interest. Mr Young will leave to-night for Wellington. Tiic lone line of successes achieved by graduates of Otago University has been extended by the latest honour conferred upon Dr. J. W. Mellor, n.Sc„ F.R.S. Since going to England his career has been marked by a succession of outstanding achievements. He holds the position of honorary general secretary of Ihe Ceramic Society and principal of the pottery department of the North Staffordshire Technical College. Dr. Mellor lias now been unanimously elected an honorary member of the American Society, "in recognition of achievements of exceptional value in ceramics.” There arc only i i honorary members of this society, which is the largest of ils kind in Hie world, with a membership of over 2500.
