GAME AT NGARUAWAHIA. HAMILTON DEFEATED. The Hamilton .senior League team travelled to Ngaruawahia -on Saturday where they were defeated by. the local team by 9 points to 5. Following wero the teams:— Ngaruawahia: E. Abbott, F- Dare, Menzies, Mason, Evans, Laird, Mcßirney B. Abbott, Barakot, Wilson, . Hill, Robinson, Kelly. v Hamilton: Thomas, Royal, Mitchell, J. Muir, S. Muir, Holland, E. Hynes, B. Hynes, Hogan, Paget, Hales, Phillips, Johnson. Ngaruawahia kicked off, the ball going out in Hamilton’s twenty-five. Hamilton were. awarded a free, but sVere 7, sent*back by a- penalty.. When Ngaruawahia were pressing Hales and Hogan broke away to mid-field. Ngaruawahia’a backswvent away-in a pass-*-ing rush which Kelly spoilt toy -hang-' ing on too long. Menzies was hooking well and twice Ngaruawahla’s backs were nearly through, but a solid tackle by Holland made Robinson’s pass to Hill go astray. . The local backs were getting the lion’s share of the ball, and well fed by Abbott were showing -up in smart passing, E. Holland and Johnson went away to gain territory for Hamilton. The Nga-ruaw-ahia backs opened out In a nippy passing rush in which several of the forwards Joined and Laird sent on to Mason who bullocked his way across for a try between the posts. It was a splendid bout of passing. Barakot missed the easiest of -shots and Ngaruawahia led 6—2.

Abbott at fullback started a passing bout which had the defence sorely tried- Hamilton now took a turn at attacking, Royal putting in a dasli and kicking to be just beaten for the force down by B. Abbott, Johnson, with Hogan, Phillips and Hynes supporting him were playing great games in the forwards. Half time came with the teams at mid-field. Hamilton were playing with vogour now and Phillips, Johnson, Hynes and Paget cleared out to be stopped by Robinson, who was injured

when he went down at their feet. He saved the try and was able to resume. Barakot with strong straight running and cutting -in attempted to go through on his own but he was solidly taokled by Holland. From a forward melee Holland nipped in and sped to th,e corner where he narrowly missed scoring. The Hamilton pack were working hard and (kept hammering away on Ngauawahla’s line until. J. Muir was penalised -and Ngaruaw r a-hia gained relief. Dare, Laird and Mcßirney were putting in some solid work and cleared to' hall'-way. Hill, Robinson and Kelly combined in/a run to be pulled -up by Royal. From-another passing run S. Muir intercepted and with Holland trailing in -support raced away but Barakot came up fast and' tackled him from-behind. Hamilton had Ngaruawahia penned up -but the defence held, and Dare raised the siege with a lofty kick. Solid tackling did not allow either set-s of backs to get far and the game was of the solid order rather than brilliant. Time was called and two very evenly matched teams left the field with the local men vlotors toy 9 points to 5,
