“SHERWOOD’S QUEEN.”

DELIGHTFUL OPERETTA. ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD. Lilting music, clever acting and all those items which go toward making an entertainment a success favoured “Sherwood's Queen,” the operetta staged by Bible Class girls of St. Andrew’s Church In the Methodist Hall on Saturday evening. There was a capacity house, and the enjoyment with which the programme was received was evidenced 'by the frequency of the applause. The entertainment "was admirably staged and the juvenile performers played their parts to perfection. The singing was of a high order, the solos, duets and tuneful harmonised choruses being particularly impressive. Outstanding parts were portrayed by Misses Joyce Cliffe ‘ and Wynne James as Marian and Friar Tuck respectively. The former as the bashful maiden, queen of the forest and “apple of bold Robin’s eye,” was very convincing, and her sweet voice was heard to advantage. The latter, as the Jovial epicurean of the company, created much merriment. Other characters were well portrayed as follows: —Robin Hood, Miss Ethel James; Little John, Miss Esme Hobbs; Allan a’Dale, Miss Rose Findlay; Will Scarlet, Miss Jean Findlay; Alice, Miss Ruth Gilbert; Arthwell, Miss Dorothy Robertson; Widow, Miss Edna Coles; Three Brothers, Misses Jean Gudex, Dorothy Cliffe and Jean Mason. A large chorus of foresters and maidens was responsible for some fine work. Mrs E. Bartholomew carried out the onerous duties of accompanist successfully.
