LEGISLATURE IN SESSION. AN OPTIMISTIC NOTE. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel- Copyright SUVA, June 2. The session of the Fiji Legislative Council was opened this morning. The address of the Governor, Sir A. G. Murchison Fletcher, was optimistic. It stated that in the main centres of the colony’s principal industry (sugar) along the north-we3t coast of Viti Levu and at Lambasa (Vanua Levu) the spirit of optimism was in marked contrast to .the pessimism at Suva. The address did not agree with the suggested reduction of Civil Service salaries. It inferred that if salaries were reduced new taxation must be imposed. It announced that the Hawaiian Pinapple Company had terminated its growing experiments in Fiji. A record crop of rice was anticipated, sufficent lor local consumption. King George was returning to Fiji the mace presented to him by King Cakobau.
