DOMINION RECIPIENTS. I TWO KNIGHTS BACHELOR. SIR W. D. HUNT, SIR A. C. DAY. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, announced last evening that the King had been graciously pleased, on the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday, to confer the following honours: Knight Bachelor. Mr William Duffus Hunt, of Wellington, managing director of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd. Mr Albert Cecil Day, C.M.G., C.B.E-, Official Secretary to His Excellency the Governor-General. C.M.G. - Mr Alexander Dallas Park, of Wellington, Secretary to the Treasury. Professor James Hight, of Christchurch, Rector of Canterbury University College. * C.B.EMr George McNamara, of Wellington, Secretary to the Post and Telegraph Department. Sir William Hunt. Sir William Hunt w r as born in Auckland in 1867, and commenced his career on “Blackstone Hill” sheep station, Central Otago, in 1885. In 1891, be opened a branch at Gore for Wright, Stephenson and Company, and became a partner in the firm in 1899. On the formation of a limited company in 1906 he was appointed managing director. He was appointed managing director of Abraham and Williams, Limited, in 1923. Sir William is chairman of directors of the Wairarapa Frozen Meat Company, chairman of the Challenge Phosphate Company, and a direotor of the Wellington Meat Export Co., the Australian Mutual Provident Society, Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., and other companies. He is a member of the Meat Board representing stock and' station agents, and of the Dairy Board, representing dairy factory proprietors and dairy produce exporters. Sir William -was chairman of the Public Service Royal Commission in 1912, chairman of the Taxation Commission in 1923, and a member of the Royal Commission on Taxation In 1924. Sir Ceoll Day. Sir Cecil Day, official secretary to the Governor-General, was born in England in 1884, being the son of Mr C. F. Day, of Eastington, Gloucestershire. On Lord Islington’s appointment as Governor of New Zealand in j 1910, Sir Cecil accompanied him to | the Dominion, occupying the post of assistant private (secretary on His Excellency’s personal staff. Sir Cecil •has since filled the position of official secretary to the Earl of Liverpool, Viscount Jellicoe, Sir Charles Fergusson and Lord Blcdisloe. Sir Cecil was awarded the C.B.E. in 1919 and the C.M.G. in 1925. Mr A. D. Park. Mr A. D- Park, who holds the related offices of Secretary to the Treasury. Receiver-General, Pay-master-General and Financial Adviser | to the Government, was born at ! taki, North Otago, in 1882. In 1930, Mr Park was appointed Secretary to the Treasury, an office which embraces numerous other offices, including that of chairman of the Local Government Loans Board. On the death of Mr Hayes last year Mr Park also became Financial Adviser to the Government. Professor J. Hight. Professor James Hight, Rector of Canterbury University College, was born at Halswell, Christchurch, 'in 1872. He was the first in New' Zealand to attain the degree of Doctor of Literature. On the death of Dr. Chilton in 1908 Professor Might was appointed rector of Canterbury College. He has written voluminously, chiefly on educational subjects. Mr George MoNamara. Mr George McNamara was appointed Secretary to the Post and Telegraph Department in 1926. Mr McNamara, who is 51 years of age, joined the service at Invercargill in 1896 and has been through virtually every branch. Order of the British Empire. G.B.E. Sir Robert Gibson, chairman of the Commonwealth Bank. C.B-E. Dr. F. W. Wheatley, formerly headmaster of the Jervis Bay Naval College. Brigadier-General George H. Dean, of South Australia. Mr J. 11. Vaughan, South Australia. Brigadier-General Paine, of New South Wales. Mrs Alice Emmerton, of Melbourne, a very prominent worker in philanthropic and charitable movements, also a member of the Red Gross SocietySir Georgo Edward Rich has been a Justice of the High Court of Australia since 1913 and since that time has sat in more single Judge cases Hum any other member of his Court, delegate to the League of Nations in 1922.

Sir Klngaford Smith has had a notable record as air pilot and has completed some historic flights. Four outstanding feats were accomplished In the Fokker monoplane Southern Cross. In it he and his crew flew in three stages across the Pacific, 6730 miles, in June, 1928. The airmen then crossed the Tasman Sea to New Zealand and back in the Southern Cross. He then flew to England In 15 days. The Southern Cross was then reconditioned at Amsterdam, and Sir Kingsford Smith flew from Ireland to Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, a flight of 31J hours. He went on to San Francisco, thus completing the aerial ’ circumnavigation of the globe. Sir Kingsford Smith made a solo flight from Australia to England In September-October, ,1931. He took 14 clays on the flight, as he was delayed by the Turkish authorities. He made another flight from Australia to England when he look the relief monoplane .Southern Star, carrying ?,ie Christmas mail, from Sydney to London, in December, 1931. He returned to Australia in the Southern Star with mail in January, 1932. Sir Robert Gibson (69), chairman of directors of the Commonwealth Bank, was born in Falkirk, Scotland. He served In various capacities with engineering Arms in Scotland and went to Australia in 1890, commencing practice as a designer and draughtsman. Upon the resignation of Mr J. J. Garvan In 1926 from the position of chairman of directors of the Commonwealth Bank, Sir Robert was appointed in his place. Sir Robert was Knighted for public services rendered by him in connection with repatriation and other matters after the war. Sir Harold Luxton is a well-known Melbourne business man. He served in the Great War. He was first elected Lord Mayor of Melbourne in 1928 and also occupied that ofllce for the two following terms. In 1930 lie was elected to the Victoria Legislative Assembly. Dr. F. W. Wheatley is a distinguished scholar who, while attached to the. Intelligence staff of the Defence Department during the war, discovered the key to a code used by the German Pacific Squadron, which led to the destruction of a German squadron off Falkland Islands, in 'November, 1914.
