COTTON PRODUCTION.
DECLINE IN EMPIRE SUPPLY. (Omclal Wireless.) RUGBY, May 31. The production of cotton in all the Empire Helds except Uganda fell off considerably in 1931. The British Cotton Growing Association in its annual report attributes the decline in some instances to unfavourable climatic conditions and in others to disinclination to grow cotton at the unremunerative prices prevailing. Uganda’s yield was 200/200 bales from 739,090 acres under cotton. This maintains the protectorate’s outstanding position among the cotton producing countries of the Empire and is a gain as regards output and quality. The total estimated production of cotton 'grown in new fields in the Empire in 1931 (in bales of -iOOlb) was 495,200 bales.
