NEW TRAFFIC BRIDGE.

LOCAL BODIES’ DECISION. START WHEN SUBSIDY ASSURED. C DEPUTATION TO GOVERNMENT. A decision to proceed with the construction of a traffic bridge at No. 1 Bridge as soon as the suggested Government subsidy of £BOOO is assured, was reached at a conference of representatives of the Waikato and Waipa County Counoils and Hamilton Borough Council. It was agreed that the matter was urgent and that the allocation of cost should be as previously proposed—that is, Waikato fourninths, Hamilton four-ninths, and Waipa one-ninth. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health and member for Hamilton, was approached and he stated that he recognised the urgency of the question. He agreed to endeavour to arrange a meeting of a deputation from the local bodies concerned with the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Finance, and to aid in every way possible. It was pointed out that the councils would be content this year with an advance of the £BOOO from the Government as long as the balance was assured. At a meeting of the Borough Council last evening it was decided that the Mayor, Dr. F. D. Pinfold, and the borough engineer, Mr R.. Worley, should represent Hamilton, at Wellington. It is thought that the chairman, Mr W. Newell, and the engineer, Mr A. A. Woodward, will represent the Waikato County Council, and the chairman, Mr S. C. Macky, the Waipa County Council. -
