SIR JOHN NEWLANDS. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SENATOR. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. ADELAIDE, May 20. The flcalh has occurred of Sir John Ncwlnnds. who was president of the Commonwealth Senate 192 G-29, in liis GB lll year. Sir John Ncwlantis had been a member of the Senate, representing South Australia, since 1913. lie was born til Cawdor, Nairnshire, Scotland, on August -4, 180 4, and was educated there at the Croy public school. He was chairman of the Slate Recruiting Committee from its inception till the signing of the Armistice. lie was created a K.C.M.G. 011 the inauguration of the Federal Parliament at Canberra on May 9, 1927.

DROPS DEAD AT IDS HOME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Friday. Mr Thomas Ouirke (02), sawmiller, a member of the Harbour Board, dropped dead at bis residence at Ormond this afternoon.
