Sir John Ncwlantis had been a member of the Senate, representing South Australia, since 1913. lie was born til Cawdor, Nairnshire, Scotland, on August -4, 180 4, and was educated there at the Croy public school. He was chairman of the Slate Recruiting Committee from its inception till the signing of the Armistice. lie was created a K.C.M.G. 011 the inauguration of the Federal Parliament at Canberra on May 9, 1927.
