THE WINTER MEETING.

OPENING EVENT TO PUSS MOTH. LITTLE DOUBT SCORES. LANDMARK’S BIG STEEPLECHASE. CRUACHAN WINS OPEN HURDLES. The winter meeting of the Waikato Racing Club was held at Te Rapa today in fine but threatening weather. There was a good attendance from all parts of the province. The track was in good order, though holding, strong fields were engaged and interesting racing was provided. Following are the results: —

Puss Moth was favourite with £llß from Echo Song (£81) and Emancipation (£63), Book Law being twentieth choice with only £6 on his prospects. His return was over a scoro.

Book Law was the first to become prominent and showed the way along the back to Chateau, Puss Moth, Lady Noreen, Kanapa, Echo Song, Pelting and Phenomenon. Book Law was still the pilot crossing the lop, at which stage Chateau, Keith Hall, Puss Moth and Kanapa were his closest attendants. Puss Moth moved up and showed the way into the straight to Book Law, Keith Hall, Kanapa, Kahau and Abbey Dream. Puss Moth saw it out to beat Book Law by a neck, with Arawa Rose three-quarters of a length away. Top Light was fourth and then came Kahau, Abbey Dream, Toujours and Pelting. Time 1.17 4-5.

Sports King was most in demand with £215, the next in order of selection being Leitrim (£198) and x\rcade (£114). High Commissioner was fifth fancy with £92, and Paddon seventh in request at a double-figure return with £66. Leitrim was in charge passing the stands from Kalhoremal, Val Simon, Paddon, Arcade, Tapapa, Royal Visitor, Sports King and Thespis. Leitrim and Kaihoremai were together along the back from Val Simon, Paddon, Sports King, Arcade and Thespis. Paddon went to the front five furlongs from home, showing the way into Hie straight lo High Commissioner, Sports King, Arcade, Trowbridge and Royal Visitor. High Commissioner headed Paddon after the last fence, but the latter came again lo win by a neck from High Commissioner, with Arcade three lengths away. Royal Visitor was fourth, followed by Trowbridge, Sports King, Appledore, Haakon and Thespis. Time, 2.47 3-5.

Across the top Good Idea was Hie pilot with Eager Bose, Lillie Doubt, King’s Archer and True Blood in IhaL order. Good idea was Hie first into the straight, from Lillie Doubt, with Eager Bose, King's Archer, Cynthia N. and True Blood racing as named. Half wav down the running Little Doubt challenged Good idea and came on lo win by half a length. True Blood, who finished well, was Iwo and a-half lengths further oIY third. Eager Bose (whoso saddle slipped) was fourth, with Cynthia N. and Royal Doullon together and King’s Archer last. Time, 2.12 2-5.

Lucess was favourite with £474 from Landmark (£284) and Slump (£173). After clearing three fences Slump had charge, and showed the way along the back to Mangani, Lucess, Landmark, and Claremore. Landmark made a faulty jump at the fence crossing the top. After clearing the stand double the field was bunched, Lucess being the pilot from Mangani, Slump, Landmark, and Claremore. Along the back Landmark and Slump were together, with Lucess handy and. Claremore next. Landmark went to the front at the sod wall, and showed the way across the top to Slump and Lucess, with eight lengths back to Claremore, and Mangani a dozen lengths further away. Lucess erred at the fence on the top stretch and lost material ground. Landmark and Slump were on terms at the last fence from Claremore and Lucess. Landmark got the verdict by one and aquarter lengths from Slump, .who wassix lengths in front of Lucess. Mangani was fourth, and Claremore next. Time, 5.29 2-5,

King Ford led into the straight from Tradesman, Chromadyne and Miladi. Tradesman finished on well to beaL King Ford by a neck, with Miladi a length away. Baroscope was fourth, closely attended by Chromadyne and Speedmint, with Historic and Lucky Alice next. Time, 1.15 2-5.

Advance Camp and Cruaclian took charge early and passing the stands at the end of five furlongs wore followed by Standfast, Mia Stella, Nassock, Penny Plain, Prince Lu, High Pitch, Luminary and Arch Eagle. Advance Camp and Cruachan were together along the back from Nassock, Standfast, Prince Lu, Penny Plain and Luminary. Cruachan was the first into tho straight with Advance Camp handy, and then came Standfast, Luminary, High Pitch and Nassock. Cruachan won nicely by four lengths from Advance Camp, who beat Luminary by 'three lengths. Standfast was fourth and then came High Pitch, Arch Eagle, Nassock, Mia Stella’, Prince Lu and Penny Plain.
