TROTTING

THE FIXTURE LIST.

June 3, 4 —Canterbury Park/ June 3, 4 —Hawke’s- Bay. June 11—Ashburton. June 23, 25—Auckland.

The Country Circuit.

The Thames Club, which held its Winter meeting on Saturday, brought the country circuit to a conclusion. Successful results are expected from the financial aspect, which Is a fitting reward to the enterprise displayed by the exeoutive of the club in staging an extra meeting.

Oostly to Follow.

Fisher was started at Thames, Te Aroha, Auokland, ... Cambridge and Thames meetings in turn. The Rey de Oro gelding was well supported in several of his races but he failed to return a dividend. In his first start at Thames on Saturday he did not go away at all. Fisher has speed but he will require to begin better before he will give confidence to his followers.

A Rare Occurrence,

A three horse Held at a trotting meeting is a rarity, but it was the experience at Thames on Saturday, when Eleawah, Native Berry and Derby Vale finished in that order in the Karaka Handicap. Eleawah had a .very easy ■ viotory. Although the Peterwah mare was at odds on, her return was of the liberal order considering the opposition. Weak Standard. The standard of the minor grade of •trotters who contested races. on the ciroult was very weak. There was not a decent race in the division throughout the various meetings. What with failure to go away correctly and leaving their feet at frequent Intervals during the journeys, the ■fields were anything but impressive. Any diorse that would have trotted uniformly would have had a real harvest. Win Huon, with seconds at Thames, Te Aroha and Cambridge was the most reliable. He topped his previous efforts- off with a win at Thames on Saturday, but he was lucky to get the verdict by a nose. Suited By Heavy Ground. Real Girl will be suited by the heavy ground which it will be natural to expect at Alexandra Park towards the end of next month. . j'Althongh •she did not fill a place in the Goldfields Handicap at Thames, on Saturday, the Real Guy mare went sufficiently well to mark her down for future consideration. Real Girl is very speedy, while her ability to see out a two mile journey in the best of northern company will be prominently subscribed to wh'en next race day is readied.' At the Right End. Kewpie’s Triumph won the Goldfields Handicap at the right end at Thames on Saturday. K. Bell drove the four-year-old son of The Triumph —Kewpie a good race and his charge quickly settled the leaders when ranged along on the outside over the final stages of the two miles-. The tasks ahead will not be easy but Kewpie’s Triumph is capable of some further improvement. He can act well in holding ground. Plaolngs Reversed. A’s the result of a protest for galloping past- the post in the Waikoura Handicap (harness), £l4O, for uphoppled trotters, class 4.58 (2 miles), at the Oamaru meeting, the plaolngs were reversed, the stake being awarded to the mare Fairyland ('Guy Parrish —Dreamland), syrs, limit (J. Shaw), while fifth seleotion Stanley Bingen (Nelson ‘Bingen—Stanley’s Child), syrs, 24yds (J. Bryce) was placed second. His First BUOCMS. The Hamilton owned Donee opened his winning account at Thames on Saturday when he scored in the Ngatea Handicap. The Great Audubon — Rothcliffe gelding was driven by R. A. MoMillan, who recently took hint over for training. Donee’s margin at the close of the twelve furlongs, was the decisive one of three lengths. Now that he has started on the right track, Donee may not be long in giving further proof of his ability. , i . Fourth at Last Start. •Free Logan had his good stake earning sequence temporarily halted at Thames, where he was beaten into fourth place in the sprint race, tlTe Totara Handicap. The Rey de Oro gelding lost ground at the start and later on did not have the best of it in the running. If he had moved away well he must have been the winner, judged by the handy position he was in at the conclusion of the mile and a-quarter. Free Logan will do his next racing at the Auckland meeting. Seoond His Best Effort. Mr Penalty has apparently gone off : form to some extent. He entered the country oircult at Thames last month with good form In the south. The Penalty—Osena gelding was fifth at Thames. At Te Aroha he ran a splendid seoond in the leading event, being topped off by ‘Kewpie’s Guy. At the trotting gait ho was third at Auckland. Third was again his position in the chief item at Cambridge, while at Thames on Saturday t he had to be content with fifth place.
