IMPERIAL PREFERENCE

A MISCONCEPTION REMOVED. EXPORTATIONS OF MEAT. WELLINGTON, Thursday. Mr D. Jones, chairman of the Meat Producers’ Board, was invited to attend the Farmers’ Union Executive to discuss the Board’s proposals in connection with Imperial preference, in view of the Ottawa Conference. Mr Jones stated that apparently there was a misconception as to what were the proposals of tile board. The view had been expressed that there was a danger of the suggested quota limiting the quantity of meat exported by New Zealand Into the United Kingdom. Mr Jones pointed out that this was incorrect, and that the proposals that the board supported and which had been agreed to by the other Dominions were that New Zealand and other Empire countries would have freedom of entrance for all their supplies into Great Britain, while a restriction should be placed on foreign importations.
