CONSOLIDATED SCHOOLS
POSITION IN COUNTRY. (Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Considerable diversion of opinion was evident at the Auckland Provincial Conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to-day on a remit, ‘‘That consolidation of country schools be considered as affected by economy proposals, and that bet ter education and economy may well be served by grouping schools." it was suggested Hint householders' meetings should lie bold to decide the question by majority vole. Several delegates considered il would be impossible and inipraciicahlc to consolidate certain groups of schools. instances were cited of children being forced to walk or ride many miles to school in baekbloek areas. Mr G. Hodgson (Kaitaia) said Ihe remit, if given effect 10, would enable children in baekbloek areas to receive a better education. The remit was paoaod.
