BROTHERS MISSING.

A TRAGEDY FEARED. CAPSIZE OF A BOAT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Monday. A tragedy is believed to have marred the opening of the shooting season to-day. It is almost certain that James George Symes, aged' 26, and Alan Symcs, aged 21, brothers, of Waipukurau, were drowned in Purimu Lake, near Wanstead. The two brothers went out early this morning in a flat-bottom boat to set their “hide.” Later in the morning the interest of two other shooters, Messrs Ernest McNutt and Alan Guthrie, was aroused by the fact that ducks were seen swimming in the vicinity of the Symes decoys without being shot. The men became apprehensive and made investigations. They found the boat upturned and no sign of the owners. The oars were found later on the opposite side of the lake, having been carried over by the breeze. The father of the missing men is a well-known farmer of Waipukurau. James Symes lost his arm in a shooting accident on the same lake three years ago. THE BODIES RECOVERED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, Tuesday. Confirmation of the drowning of the two brothers, James George Syme (26) and Alan Syme (21) while duck shooting at Purimu Lake, near Wanstead, yesterday, was obtained this morning. Both bodies were recovered. They will be brought to Waipukurau for the inquest.
