WOMEN’S DIVISION.

AT MORRINSVILLE. Much the largest meeting ever held by the Morrinsville branch, of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was that held in the Masonic Hall on Friday to commemorate the third anniversary of the branch in the district. Every seat in the hall was occupied, representatives being present from all parts of the district. The president, Mrs Jenner,' presided. Letters of congratulation were received from many of the Auckland branches, wishing the branch many happy returns of the day. After the regular work of the Union had been completed a most enjoyable time was spent in competitions, readings, musio and conversation.

Amongst those present was the president of the Auckland Provincial Executive (Mrs Stubbs), who in a short address expressed her pleasure at being present at the branch’s birthday gathering and congratulated the members oL the Morrinsville Branch on the progress they had made and predicted that they would soon be the strongest branch In the Auckland province and wished them many happy returns of the day. The president, Mrs Jenner, read a most Interesting paper on the rise and development of the sheep and wool industry In New Zealand, from the first sheep landed by Captain Cook to the present day, and the first export of wool, that had risen in a comparatively short time, from a few hundred pounds weight to some thirty million pounds worth at the present day. Mrs Robison also gave an amusing reading on the vagaries of sheep generally. Mrs Topham’s two songs, as usual were greatly appreciated. Miss Turnbull provided a very handsome birthday cake, also prizes for the competitions. A most bountiful afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the branch, and its third birthday will be remembered with pleasure by all who were present.
