COUNTY WAGES REDUCED. THAMES, Thursday. Drastic cuts have been made by thQ Hauraki Plains County Council In the salaries and wages of its staff, the total savings being estimated by the clrirman at over £SOO a year. The engineer's salary lias been reduced lo £3OO a year, with a free house, and his car allowance to £IOO. The clerk’s salary has been reduced to £375 a year, with a free house-. The salary of the assistant clerk has been reduced to £l4-1 a year. Three permanent hands have had their wages reduced to £-1 a week, anti casual hands and grader drivers arc to be paid 12s Gd a day for married men and 0s a day for single men. The ferrymen’s and the Ngatca bridgekeeper’s wages have also been reduced. The services of the trafllo inspector have been dispensed with.
