COMPENSATION CLAIMS
£lOOO DAMAGES. AWARDED TO WIDOW. WELLINGTON DOCTOR TO PAT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The jury awarded £lOOO damages to Mrs Mabel Prince against Dr. W. J. McDonald for the loss of her husband. Peregrine Howard Prince, who was killed by a collision between the doctor's car and Prince's motor cycle, on a bend in the Paremata Road on October 17. The claim was originally £2OOO, but was amended to £lOOO. RUBBER WORKER AWARDED £478. AUCKLAND, Thursday. In the Supreme Court yesterday a claim for £639 damages was made by Stanley Vaux Godden, rubber worker, against Robert Hustler, a taxi-cab proprietor, of Devonport, who was driving a taxi-cab which was involved in a collision with a motor-cycle ridden by the plaintiff. The jury awarded £350 general and £l2B special damages.
CLAIM BY BARONET. RESULT OF RE-TRIAL. (By Telegrapn.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The re-trial was held In the Wellington Supreme Court to-day of the action for £347 special and £2500 general damages brought by Sir Kenneth Douglas, barrister, of Wellington, against the Victoria Laundry Company, Ltd. At the first trial last week the jury disagreed. The action was brought by plaintiff as a result of severe Injuries suffered by him when he was knocked down by one of defendant company’s vans, driven by William A. Weldon, at the junction of Constable and Riddiford Streets in 1930. His Honour entered judgment for plaintiff for £347 special and £B5O general damages. Mr Leicester, for defendant company, raised the question whether the jury's answers did not amount to a verdict in favour of his clients. His Honour reserved leave to defendant, company to move for a non-suit and judgment for defendant.
