SMOKERS’ CONTRIBUTION. OVER £6,000,000 LAST YEAR. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, August 12. Tobacco smokers in Australia last year contributed more than £6,000,000 to the Commonwealth revenue. An authority stated to-day that few smokers realised that when they bought a 2oz. packet of Virginia leaf tobacco they contributed ll}d to the revenue, while more than 3d was the contribution to the revenue from a 6d packet of cigarettes.
