BEEF VALUES HIGHER.

SHEEP RATES EASIER. \ GOOD PRICES FOR PIGS WESTFIELD FAT STOCK MARKET. A furl her sharp increase of 2s per 1001 b in values for prime ox beef and cow beef was recorded at the weekly Westfield fat stock sale yesterday. Competition was active and the total entry in all classes of the beef division was considerably in excess of last week's yarding. Buyers were looking for medium-weight cattle of the best quality.

The largest offering of sheep for three months was penned, and \alues, which last week reached 27s 3d for very choice sorts, eased about 2s a head in nearly all classes.

Calves were again offered in larger numbers, the entry being well above the average. Prices disclosed an easing tendency, particularly in the mediocre pens. Bobby calves came forward in increasing consignments, and rates were disappointing to sellers.

Pigs were in shorter supply, and values for porkers and baconers rose by about 5s a head on last week's quotations. Bidding was active, particularly among the pork butchers. Owing io the very full sheep pens and the increased calf entry the sale continued until later in the afternoon than for several weeks. The following is a summary of the prices realised for fat stock for the last two weeks at the Westfield fat stock sales:— This week. The quality of beef cattle was very good. Although the offering was larger than last week's it was not more than average. Some good individual prices were secured, the rate for fat bullocks of prime quality being the highest for some months. A line of quality fat bullocks from Mr W. Main. Tirau, sold from £9 10s to £lO 15s; a consignment from the Waikato averaged £lO 12s 6d; and a truck of 11 extra heavy prime cows from Mr W. Dennis, Waikato, made £7 12s 6d to £8 12s 6d. Calves In Over-supply. Calves were in over-supply, and a large proportion of inferior sorts was penned. Bobby calves came along in increased numbers as expected ai this time of the year. Prices showed an easing tendency all round. Last week's attractive prices for prime fat sheep resulted in a very large yarding being sent in from the farms? and it was a natural reaction that the big offering favoured the buyers. Some very fine sheep were sold, but a large proportion consisted of unfinished and inferior kinds. Lambs were penned in about usual numbers, and values closed at late quotations. Pigs were aealn in small supply, and met a keen demand. Stores sold at approximately late rates. Loan and Mercantile.
