WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
AT TE POI. The August meeting of the Te Pol branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Hall on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Grayling presided over a fair attendance of members. The usual business was attended to and several matters of interest were discussed. The competition, “Represent a Book," proved both interesting and puzzling and resulted in a tie between Mrs Whytcross and Mrs Cockerton. The meeting concluded with a playettc read by Mesdames Woolnough, Goodwin, Lansdown and Oliver, the rendering of which provoked much merriment. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Leach, Stopford, Priestly and Cox.
FIRST ANNIVERSARY
The combined Te Kauwhata-Rangi-riri branch of the Women’s Institute celebrated their first anniversary on Tuesday afternoon. Several members were present and a large birthday cake was made by Mrs Powell to celebrate the occasion. After a speech by the president, Mrs Fry. a leclurette was given by Mr Travers on ‘Home Chemistry.’’ Two or three competitions were played, the winners being Mrs Partridge and Miss ,1. Travers. In the weight-guessing competition for the birthday cake Mrs Thomas was the successful winner.
