MATCH AT HAMILTON. NEWTON TEAM'S SUCCESS. A CONVINCING MARGIN. The Newton (Auckland) thirteen met Hamilton at Hlnemoa Park on Saturday, the visitors running out winners by 28 to 6 points. The teams were as follows:— Newton. — Muir, Hemprey, Hill, Horn,, Hammond, Pope, Brimble, Middleton, Allen, St.George, Emanuel, Clemm, Ferguson. Hamilton. — Robertson, Graham, Stubbing, Boyle, O’Halloran, Hines, Astle, Perry, Harris, McGreel, Paget, Glasgow, Crewther. Newton kicked off, hut a man being In front, caused play to be brought back and a serum was taken. Hammond started a rush, but the ball was passed forward. Hamilton forced their way up to the 25. Brimble was playing prominently for the visitors. He gained possession and dummied and beat several men. Hines played the ball nicely near Newton's 25 and passed to Boyle, but a knock-on occurred. From the scrum Graham had a good chance of scoring but he cross-kicked and the ball went out. Half-time came without any further score. The Second Spell. On the resumption Hamilton forced their way to Newton's goal line. Brimble started a rush and brought play back to half-way. Pope made a good dash down the line but was forced out. From the subsequent play Hamilton brought the game to midfield. Newton forced play and looked like scoring but the chance was lost through Middleton knocking-on. A scrum took place at half-way. Muir failed, with the kick. Hamilton 3 Newton 19 In subsequent play Hamilton went over for their second try. The visitors were definitely superior over the concluding stages. The teams were entertained to dinner at the Frankton Hotel after the game. The teams were congratulated on the display and the sporting spirit In which the game was played. Mr S. Muir, secretary of the Hamilton Club, said that the public were taking more interest in the League code and hoped next year they would be able to run their own club competition. Among the toasts honoured were the Press and the St. John Ambulance Association. THE AUCKLAND TITLE. MARIST SUCCESSFUL. AUCKLAND, Monday. At Carlaw Park on Saturday the biggest crowd of the Rugby League season witnessed the deciding game in the senior championship between Marist and Devonport. The result was a rattling good game, with the teams making the play fast, open and spectacular, and the crowd keyed up to concert pitch. The men from across the harbour by superior work among the forwards and fine spoiling tactics, had, territorially, the better of the exchanges, but in the end the combination of Marist told Its tale, and they won by 12 points to 5. The game was a fitting final to a competition which has been productive of fine football. Details of results are:-— Seniors. Marist 12, beat Devonport 5. Richmond 14, beat Ponsonby 5.
